If something in Pericope is not working, or you find an error in a study, please write to us at nelsonmoncayo@gmail.com.
When you report an error in a study, please include the study reference, for example Romans 8:26-30, so we can find it.
iCloud sync
iCloud sync is off unless you turn it on. To turn it on or off, open the Settings tab, the gear at the right end of the tab bar, and use the Sync progress switch under iCloud. Then close Pericope in the app switcher and open it again, because the change takes effect when the app starts.
Sync needs your iPhone to be signed in to iCloud. If it is not, the switch is greyed out and the note under it asks you to sign in to iCloud in your iPhone’s Settings.
When sync is on, your saved studies, your Later list, your notes and the studies you have opened are kept in the private database of your own iCloud account, so they are also on any other iPhone where you use Pericope with the same iCloud account and sync turned on. Your settings stay on each iPhone.
Bible translation
Pericope offers three translations, the Berean Standard Bible, the King James Version and the World English Bible. The app shows them by their short names, BSB, KJV and WEB.
To change the translation, open the Settings tab and choose one under Reading, or tap Aa at the top of the Bible tab. The feed, the passage at the top of each study and the Bible tab all use the translation you choose.
Daily reminder
To get a reminder, open the Settings tab, turn on Daily reminder under Reminder and choose a time. The first time, iOS asks whether Pericope may send you notifications. Each day at that time you get one notification saying your next passage is ready.
To stop the reminder, turn Daily reminder off. If notifications for Pericope are turned off in your iPhone’s Settings, the reminder cannot be turned on until you allow them there.
Your notes
To write a note, open a study and tap Notes. Your note appears at the end of the study, and every study you have written a note on is listed in the Saved tab under Notes.
Notes are kept on your iPhone. If you turn on iCloud sync, they are also kept in the private database of your own iCloud account. We cannot see them.
Reset progress, in the Settings tab, deletes your notes along with your saved studies, your Later list and the record of the studies you have opened. The studies themselves stay.
Where the studies come from
The Bible text in Pericope is the Berean Standard Bible, the King James Version and the World English Bible. All three are in the public domain.
The studies draw on the Greek and Hebrew text of Scripture, on older commentaries such as those of John Gill, Matthew Henry and Charles Spurgeon, and on other published study resources. Each study closes with an older hymn chosen to fit its passage.
iPhone only
Pericope is for iPhone only for now. It needs iOS 17 or later.
