What a study holds
Each study works through its passage in eight parts.
-
Passage
The whole passage, in the translation you choose.
-
Exegesis
What the text says, read in its own context, through its words, its grammar and its structure, with the Greek or Hebrew where it helps.
-
Historical context
The world the passage was written into, who wrote it, who first read it and what they knew that we do not.
-
The Bigger Biblical Picture
How the passage fits the teaching of the whole Bible.
-
Devotional
What the passage means for you, once the text has been handled properly.
-
Application
A direct word on what the passage asks of you, not a vague encouragement.
-
Questions
Five questions, from what the text says to what you will do about it, for your own study or for a group.
-
Hymn
An older hymn chosen for the passage, with a note on why it was chosen.
Each study shows its reading time, and most take 10 to 15 minutes.
Why the name Pericope
A pericope is a few verses of Scripture that belong together and can be read as one thought. The word comes from Greek and means a section cut out of a longer text.
Every study in Pericope is built on one of these units, never on a single verse pulled out of its setting.
Keep what you want
Save a study to keep it, or mark it for later. Write your own notes on any study, and your note appears at the end of it. Share any section of a study as an image.
The Mind map shows all 66 books of the Bible and keeps count of the studies you have opened.
The whole Bible
The Bible tab holds every chapter of the Bible in three translations, the Berean Standard Bible, the King James Version and the World English Bible. A passage that has a study carries its title, and you can open the study from there.
